Stephen Hillenburg (born August 21, 1961 – died November 26, 2018) was an American Animator, Cartoonist, Voice Actor, and Marine Biology Teacher from Lawton, Oklahoma. He was famous for creating the SpongeBob SquarePants (Nickelodeon television series). Furthermore, the 57-year-old animator died on November 26, 2018, due to complications from a disease named ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Stephen revealed that he diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Moreover, he also released a statement which states that he continued to work on SpongeBob SquarePants as long as possible.
The animator was also the producer, director, and writer of the show. In addition, his show later became one of the most successful animated TV series in America. Also, is is the highest-rated show ever to air on Nickelodeon.
During his college days, Stephen created two successful short films named The Green Beret and Wormholes (both 1992). Later, he received an offer for a job on the Nickelodeon animated television series Rocko’s Modern Life (1993–1996).
Moreover, Hillenburg started developing The Intertidal Zone characters in 1994. It was concepts for what became SpongeBob SquarePants. The show first premiered in 1999.
